Obama’s First Good Move

Today, Obama executed the first correct move of his administration while marking the end of the combat mission in Iraq. During his speech, he correctly paid tribute to George W as a “Patriot”. Bush is a patriot, and Obama is now enjoying one of the very few things going right presently with America, a Victory given to him by the blood and guts of American warrios and George W who refused to be defeated while everyone (including Obama) demanded they should. While he enjoys this victory, which he did nothing to reverse during his term as he had previously promised (pulling out of Iraq, closing Guantanamo, etc) and even kept Bush’s capable Defense Minister Gates, he is also suffering continuous defeats in his war of choice that he so eagerly campaigned for and has now expanded in Afghanistan. There, things are going from bad to worse very quickly, and I don’t know if Obama has the wherewithal, guts, perseverence and capacity to see it through to victory. Patriotism over Politics

Republicans press Obama to send more troops to Afghanistan Read more here: The tables have turned, with a Democratic Obama leading (badly) an increasingly unpopular war that is increasingly going badly. Obama has chosen to intensify rather than wind down the 9 year old Afghan conflict and what do Republicans do?? Criticize the US presence in a war they were in favor of starting back then (just like Democrats were for Iraq)??? Scream surrender, withdrawal, pull out, defeat??… which would all make the President look bad, and increase poll points for the Republican party. No. They press the president to do the utmost to protect the troops, and pressure him to win, as opposed to lose which he endorsed for 7 years while the wars were under Bush. They want victory and for the soldiers to all come back alive, both events that if occur, would be credited to the president and give Democrats in general giant boost in popularity. Why then? For the same reasons they are Republicans as opposed to Democrats. They chose patriotism over politics, truth over popularity, individual responsibility over society’s blanket, and the often lonesome, hated and trying path of conservatism over the much easier, [...]

Obama already breaking on Afghanistan and other Musings

Pentagon worried about Obama’s commitment to Afghanistan Read more here: Wars are won and lost on Will, and I knew Obama and friends were dumber than usual in not recognizing their own lack of it, and expanding this war. But he is breaking far faster then I expected. I worried that if he did nothing at all, he would preside over the winding down of Afghanistan, victory in Iraq (won in spite of gigantic pressure and against all odds under Bush), and the natural economic recovery… all leading to undeserved praise and popularity. This could have long lasting negative effects. But Now I know one must never worry an idiot will do well, even if it means doing nothing at all. One must worry an idiot will do as an idiot does. From endangering the world’s greatest economy by socialism and record unsustainable deficits, to ending its landmark foundations in individual freedom and responsibility, not to mention hysterically and without resolve increasing a military buildup in a region where the US purposefully did not have a large build up (ask the Soviets how that goes), and soon after showing public weakness and lack of steadfast support for the soldiers he [...]
