Big Surprise? – Brown leading California to the Brink as Revenues Fall Despite Tax Hikes

While the media buzz rages about the so called national fiscal cliff (a gross mis-characterization, meant largely to force the GOP to crumble on tax increases), California is heading down to a more real one of its own. With Governor Jerry Brown at the helm, the unions continue to have a free hand on milking wealth producing Californians to the brink, until the state’s beauty, resources and social ties (Hollywood, Silicon Valley, Napa Wine, Salinas and San Joaquin agriculture, the Pacific ports and beaches, etc etc) are not enough to hold them within the sate and they flee to more welcoming regions. Jerry Brown ran for Governor promising to fix California’s fiscal problems and balance the budget. During the 2010 election, I commented the election did not present a very appealing choice, but noted that “…Brown is more likely to push CA passed the brink in collusion with the unions, and actually bankrupt CA.” Also endorsed was Andy Favor for Comptroller rather than the incumbent John Chiang. Not surprisingly, California voters did not agree, and they now find themselves reaping some of the economic consequences of their chosen team. California Bans “Gay Therapy” for minors – “I told you So…”

Governor Jerry Brown, who was elected in California (defeating former ebay CEO Meg Whitman) to make the tough decisions needed to keep California out of bankruptcy and balance its spending-spree budget, has instead continued the California tradition of budget gimmicks and “kicking the can down the road” for later administrations and generations to deal with. The budget he has signed, assumes the voters will approve more than $8 billion in new taxes this November, and seizes over $3.1 billion from local redevelopment agencies, a violation of the voter’s will and likely unconstitutional (and bound to end up bogged down in court). It further assumes, that even if the voters passed the new taxes, they would not have a detrimental effect on the economy and drive even more people and businesses away from California, which they will. He did make some cuts, in the worse possible places such as eliminating Healthy Families, targeting poor children and their health care, but kept the vast state worker union machine and public education bureaucracy intact and in control. Why North Dakota May Be the Best State in the Country to Live In by Carla Fried Thursday, March 31, 2011 Full Article Lowest unemployment in the nation, best job growth, lowest default rate, low violent crime and high third higest GDP growth! Today’s headline should be easy to explain… Obviously, this must because its the most multicultural and diverse state…oh no its over 90% white. Hmm maybe because it has the most progressive liberal policies that allow for jobs, regulation and fairness for all…oh no its one of the most consistently republican states in the country. Surely the sales tax is very high, because in California (which is collapsing in every way) it is only near 10% and there is a gigantic budget deficit. Hence the mighty Brown is about to raise ’em some more. To afford such a great standard for all the population in ND, consumers must be taxed quite a lot. Yes? Oh, no its only 5%, half of CA’s and they have large surpluses. For those interested in Voting Correctly

Erik Voter Guide for California Not being a US citizen, I of course do not vote in the US, but am glad to advise those who wish to do their patriotic duty. Prop 19 – No (mild no, it would be funny to see what would happen if it passed, since pot remains Federally prohibited, and the assertions about taxing it and regulating it are lies, since states, counties and local governments cannot tax, license and encourage the sale of federally illegal substances. You could have federal indictments of whole local governments). Prop 20 – Yes Prop 21 – No Prop 22 – Yes (debatable) Prop 23 – Yes Prop 24 – No Prop 25 – No Prop 26 – Yes Prop 27 – No Governor: Ugly choice. Probably Dale Ogden would be best. Being that he is unlikely to win (by a self perpetuating cycle of people believing a 3rd party candidate is unlikely to win thus not voting for them), Meg is probably slightly better than Jerry brown.
