Gaza – The Big Picture and What Israel Should Do (have done)

Nearing what could be the end, or hopefully simply a lull, of this round of fighting in Gaza, it is important to take a step back, look at the big picture, and see what Israel if anything has achieved in what it should have achieved. Throughout this latest conflict I have published several articles discussing various aspects like Kerry’s intervention and The Tactics and Strategy and The demonstrations and Media. I have also covered, the Obama administration’s position and attempt to pressure Israel, and Israel’s flawed PR efforts. War Against The Tunnels How it Began The Danger of Multiple Rounds of Fighting Next Round Improvements and The Economic Boom The Rockets and The Disengagement The Fallacies of the Air Campaign So What To Do? Gaza Background, What IS Gaza? In this last area specifically, it has been painful to see a massive (relative to its size) international movement of “Pro-Israel” sentiment mobilized largely to no end. Jews and non-Jews alike, around the world flocked to social media to post an endless stream of often creative messages (broadly accurate but not always) whose sum total was “Hamas is mean!”. Murdered Children, Kassam rockets, Israel’s lack of deterrence and the Opportunity

As reservist call-ups are going out every hour, and a Gaza operation is in the air, in response to an endless barrage of missiles from Hamas, I set my pen down to some thoughts, before possibly finding a keyboard and an internet connection luxuries quite out of reach. And so, a few intermixed subjects must be explored within the piece, hopefully the reader will not mind. Within a day of the kidnappings of the three youths, being announced, I posted the following article. Of course along with all Israel, I prayed and hoped for the safe return of our young boys. At the dawn of their lives, innocent, full of life, students. It was not to be, since they were murdered in cold blood by Hamas thugs. Within the article was correct analysis about Hamas being behind the attack, the likelihood that the boys entered a stolen Israeli vehicle willingly having been tricked, and the importance of the victim’s cell phones in the investigation among other details all before any of this information had been released. Three teenagers kidnapped by Arab Terrorists – Let us Save them or Avenge them

The recently declared Hamas-Fatah Palestinian Authority government did not take long to show its colors. While embarrassingly, this terrorist government continues to be recognized and dealt with both by Israel and the USA, it is not surprising that on the wake of terror prisoner release deals both by Israel and the US (under the Obama administration), the confident terror networks have struck again. This time they have kidnapped three young Israeli students, (one also holding a US citizenship), apparently some time on Thursday, as they hitchhiked to Mod’in (a small city between Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv). Under George Bush, the palestinian terrorists would have cursed their “bad luck” in having taken a US citizen, and as occurred in the past (in Gaza), but somehow I doubt they very much care now under Barak Hussein Obama. Unfortunately, their lives will bot be saved by FB and twitter hashtags like #bringbackourboys etc…. regardless of how many “likes” you get. They would be saved by the very policies most Jews disagree with. Not too long ago, Israel traded over 1000 convicted Arabs for a young IDF soldier, Gilad Shalit, who had been taken near the Gaza border and ultimately held for over 5 [...]

The Danger of “Peace”

At outset of Operation Pillar of Defense, here at the Lighthouse we voiced our support for the IDF’s operation and highlighted the dangers and opportunities present in the new realities of the region, brought on by a weak and misguided Western World. Chief among these changes was that a group almost indistinguishable from Hamas (they have a rather intertwined history), is actually in control of Egypt. The first article’s headline, –Gilad Shalit and many more Avenged today – Egypt is Not the Same was repeated nearly verbatim a few days later by Egypt’s new Islamist President Mohammed Morsi: Cairo would not leave Gaza alone as I tell them on behalf of the Egyptian people that Egypt today is different from Egypt yesterday and Arabs today are different from the Arabs yesterday. He went on to say that: if I see that the homeland is in danger, I won’t hesitate. Earlier on Friday he was quoted as: Gaza will not remain alone as it was…the aggressors know they will pay a heavy price is they continue their aggression.
