Jerusalem Mayoral Elections 2018

Jerusalem, unite together to stop Ofer Berkowitz in today’s election runoff. The barrage of missiles today should help remind us who our enemies are, and not to chose to follow those that would divide our ancient people, so that we may never a house divided fall.

Just as you would find disgusting an ideology to make it impossible by law for a mizrahi to live in an ashkenazi neighborhood, so should #Hitorerut ‘s divisive policies be an outrage. If any other western country segregated Jews by measuring how many mitsvahs they keep, we would all scream foul, and yet we support this segregation in our eternal capital in the single Jewish state?!

Ofer is a young man who has been told to lead all his life.. go to the army, be an officer, then get into local politics.. lead lead lead, and that’s all very good and well, but he has never asked himself where he ought to lead us to. Leaders must know the right direction before they can lead others towards it. His foundation is non existent, his ideology baseless and hateful.

All of his ideas are childish, extremist in their communism (even for Israel!), naive, and stand starkly against Ahavat am Israel. They are arbitrary and only have in common the vain streak that “he”, the 35 year old father of Jerusalem, will decide. He believes he will play sim-city with Jerusalem and decide where everyone lives and where they work and where every building ought to be and what every business can and cannot do.

The concept of freedom (for anyone other than himself) is completely alien to him, as are most powerful ideological principles, he has none. He wants to lead… he’s always been a leader they tell him. And he is young and energetic, and this apparently should be enough we are told, so that in his ignorant and arrogant stupidity he can lead the much wiser Jerusalem population where he wills.

As a paratrooper, I know this not why Motta Gur and his eternal paratroopers frenetically charged towards the Temple Mount and liberated Jerusalem five decades ago.

I certainly don’t want to follow him, and I would suggest to him, after he hopefully loses this election, to stop trying to lead for a second, and spend some time learning, listening, and thinking, and getting the faintest idea where it is that we ought to be led to before he tries to take us there again.

There is a reason the likes of our Defense Minister Mr. Lieberman back Lion, and the likes of Meretz back Ofer. There is a reason why even Nir Barkat, bitter political rival to Moshe Lion in the previous election, now backs him over Ofer as well. No one that has worked with him in the city can stand him, his arrogance prevents that, and no serious person can respect his childish and hateful agenda.

Ofer is not a bad guy I am sure, just an inexperienced, young, and ignorant guy who wants to decide everything, out of good intentions I am sure. And even if for a moment I believed that the mayor of Jerusalem should be granted totalitarian and communist powers over all private and public matters within Jerusalem (and the Gush as Ofer proposes), and I believed that a wise all-knowing mayor should take all of our freedom and decide all for us, which I certainly do not, then this person most certainly could not be Ofer.

Ofer believes the mayor should decide all things for the citizens, which he should not, and then believes that he should be this deciding mayor, which he certainly should not either.

Jerusalem is the united capital of Israel and for all Jews.. not to be segregated into ghettos of the “different communities” that he loves to talk about and pit against each other (while of course only Arabs are allowed all of Jerusalem, lest CNN be upset… after all it’s a democratic country, only Jews can be restricted). The mayor of Jerusalem should not know different communities.. he should know only the residents of Jerusalem as the people he serves, and if he must make a distinction, it should be only that between Jews and Arabs, who stand opposed to our sovereignty in Jerusalem and the rest of Eretz Israel. He should not legislate differences between Jews based on how many mitzvahs they brake or keep.

I know Ofer is arrogant, but that is a bit too much, even for him; that should be left between those Jews, and their creator.

Competition over ideas is over now, was a vigorous and healthy one as it should have been; the well meaning, Zionist folks at the Ofer #hitorerut camp who genuinely believe in a thriving and Jewish Jerusalem, are as always our brothers, and we unite behind our mayor Moshe Lion – משה ליאון and new council to work for our security, success and prosperity.
