Gaza – The Big Picture and What Israel Should Do (have done)

Nearing what could be the end, or hopefully simply a lull, of this round of fighting in Gaza, it is important to take a step back, look at the big picture, and see what Israel if anything has achieved in what it should have achieved. Throughout this latest conflict I have published several articles discussing various aspects like Kerry’s intervention and The Tactics and Strategy and The demonstrations and Media. I have also covered, the Obama administration’s position and attempt to pressure Israel, and Israel’s flawed PR efforts. War Against The Tunnels How it Began The Danger of Multiple Rounds of Fighting Next Round Improvements and The Economic Boom The Rockets and The Disengagement The Fallacies of the Air Campaign So What To Do? Gaza Background, What IS Gaza? In this last area specifically, it has been painful to see a massive (relative to its size) international movement of “Pro-Israel” sentiment mobilized largely to no end. Jews and non-Jews alike, around the world flocked to social media to post an endless stream of often creative messages (broadly accurate but not always) whose sum total was “Hamas is mean!”. John Kerry – the man trying to save Hamas by bullying Israel (destroyed)

Article Sections Obama could have hardly found a more willing partner than John Kerry, to find form to his virulently anti-Israel policies. From the “creative” backdoor sanctions, using the FAA to attempt to close Israel to air traffic (reported earlier in this article), to traditional massive political pressure and the UN security council, Kerry has thrown everything the administration can muster at Israel in order to stop the IDF from achieving its objectives and defeating the terrorist regime next door. Though Israel can handle Hamas, as Danny Dannon recently stated, it needs a “ceasefire from Obama’s attacks”. The American people are friends and allies of Israel. This friendship is only surpassed by the level of friendship the Israeli people feel for the Americans. America will not find Israel among its critics, even when it blows up weddings in Afghanistan with drones killing 70 people at a time. The American people, are not only Israel’s supporters and friends, but they are far from either to Hamas. And not because they are Arabs or Muslim, but because they are Islamist terrorists. Operation Protective Edge, Tactics and Strategy

As the 17th day of Operation Protective Edge against the Hamas held Gaza Strip nears, there are a few crucial lessons already clear for the IDF to adapt going forward, and more importantly for the political echelon to heed. The ground incursion phase of the operation is far more recent, about 6 days in total, there has been 3 distinct phases that are now apparent. The first two days of the operation were seemingly quite successful for the IDF. By the end of the second night’s operations, the IDF stood within 1 and 2 kilometers from Gaza city, from the north and east respectively. The advance had been fast, visibly knocking the Hamas organization off balance; by the second day, though the southern areas of Israel near the Gaza strip remained under heavy shelling, it seems that the long range bombardment of the country’s center (Tel-Aviv area) and Jerusalem was virtually reduced to zero as the Hamas launching quads ran deeper into Gaza to stay out of the army’s reach.
