Timbuktu being destroyed by NATO backed Islamists

Early on in the west’s support of populist Islamism, I wrote about the Al-Qaeda groups being emboldened in the Islamic Maghreb. NATO and AL Qeada fighting side by side Today, Reuters is reporting that these same groups, in an uneasy Alliance with the Tuareg tribesmen whose region was destabilized by the NATO onslaught on Libya, are destroying (due to their non-Muslim origin) ancient historical sites in the legendary Timbuktu formally recognized as UNESCO sites. More of the same is happening across the “Arab Spring” countries. Al Qaeda-linked Mali Islamists armed with Kalashnikovs and pick-axes destroyed centuries-old mausoleums of saints in the UNESCO-listed city of Timbuktu on Saturday in front of shocked locals, witnesses said. The Islamist Ansar Dine group backs strict sharia, Islamic law, and considers the shrines of the local Sufi version of Islam to be idolatrous. Sufi shrines have also been attacked by hardline Salafists in Egypt and Libya in the past year. The attack came just days after UNESCO placed Timbuktu on its list of heritage sites in danger and will recall the 2001 dynamiting by the Taliban of two 6th-century statues of Buddha carved into a cliff in Bamiyan in central Afghanistan. More Al Qeada links among the Rebels and intrigue in Qadaffi’s Clan

Western Media reported that one Qadaffi son, (the footlabll player I think) Said, is trying to surrender while Saif (the leading regime figure and second eldest son) has vowed to fight to the death… Hakim Belhadj, the rebel commander in Tripoli, who of course was detaiend in 2003 by the CIA in Malaysia for leading a terror group and having links to Al Qaeda, reported that Said had called him asking to negotiate a surrender and guarantees of his safety. The image apparently trying to be created is of turmoil between the brothers, and though I am sure there is plenty of pressure, I don’t think that is what is happening. Just one or two days ago, the same son tried offered to lead talks with the rebel about a transitional goverment which were rejected. When reading more details into the pruported statemtents of negotiating a surrender, one can see the offer was actually to “join” the movement of the people against the regime. It lokos like two sides of the same coin, the Qadaffis are trying to see if they can get one of the sons in teh new goverment. Said is relatively “clean” as far accusations of crimes. Either [...]

NATO and Al Qeada fighting side by side?

ALGIERS: al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb on Sunday claimed responsibility for deadly twin suicide attacks in Algeria, accusing the regime there of supporting Moamer Qadhafi in neighbouring Libya. Well, it is good to know that if Algeria wishes to standy by its neighbors’ long time government, a partner in maintaining stability, and combating illegal drugs, illegal immigration, terrorism and islamic extremism (ie Qadaffi) when facing insurrection fueled by internal and external forces, then Al Qeada will quickly come to NATO’s aid in punishing it for standing in the way of Islamic revolution, brought to you by NATO bombs. Within one or two days of the Libyan rebels declaring Algeria a hostile entity for aiding Qaddafi troops (and taking in some of the family members including Qdaffi’s daughter who reportedly was giving birth at the border without medical attention), Al Qeada attacked Algiers, brother-in-arms with the islamic mob taking over Libya and NATOs forces helping them do it. While NATO can do just fine blowing up Libya’s army and soldiers to bits (in order to “save civillian lives”), its more beurocratic structure would be cumbersome and slow to secure a mandate to bomb Algiers as well, so the more nimble [...]
